The early steps of learning to read can be challenging ones, and we are happy to see young patrons learning to enjoy reading in lots of different ways. We’re very glad to see children reading together with their friends or parents, and we’re just as happy that we can introduce our young patrons to friendly, four-legged reading buddies!
We’re lucky enough to have not one, but two trained therapy dogs who visit the library on a regular basis with their people. They come because they just adore listening to stories from young readers. They make great, furry listeners, and are the perfect way to get our more reluctant readers excited to come in and share stories.
We’re even luckier that our reading dogs are accompanied by a literacy expert. Mindy and Jill are the kind women who bring our reading dogs to the library, and each of them has extensive experience in teaching young children to read and assisting readers who are having difficulty, even teaching English as a Second Language. Please contact the library if you’d like to find out more, (207)781-2351.
