The sculptures were created by Pownal, ME-based artist John Bowdren, who is trained as an illustrator at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and over the past 4 decades has progressively moved from illustration into painting and sculpture to explore color, light, and composition in painting and materials and how they interact in nature and can focus the landscape in sculpture, working primarily in wood and bronze with gold and palladium leaf accents he seeks to simplify shapes into silhouettes in space, with forms like Alewives fish and birds such as Swallows and Swifts and how these can connect the viewer to the kinetic elements of the air and water, environments they and we move through. Ann Staples Waldron, long time educator and community leader (and avid library patron), donated a Bernard Langlais sculpture, “Siesta”, now hanging in The Odyssey Reading Room.“Celebrate” by Jac Ouellette.
