Another Bone to Pick…

Okay, most people have series that they anxiously await  for new releases every year or so-right?  Sometimes you are satisfied after you read the latest installment of the series and sometimes you are not.  The longer the series runs,  the harder I think it is for the author to sustain the intensity of the characters and storyline-at least that’s what my latest conjecture is now .  Which is why there comes a time when you part ways with a series.  In fact,  I started reading Kathy Reichs after I felt Patricia Cornwell(Kay Scarpetta series)  had gotten a bit too dark and depressing for me.  One of my favorite series is Kathy Reichs’ forensic mystery series which features Temperance Brennan and is the basis for the television show Bones.      I enjoyed “Bones are Forever”.  It had all the elements of a Kathy Reichs forensic mystery I have come to expect.  Temperance Brennan teams up with her now ex-flame Detective Andrew Ryan and his counterpart from the Royal Canadian Mountain Police Ollie Hasty,  to investigate the deaths of three babies.  The case leads them first to Edmonton and then to Yellowknife, a diamond mining city in the Northwest Territories of Canada.  This was a good solid read and if I had any criticism it would be that it was missing a little depth with regard to the characters and felt a tad formulaic but maybe that was because I had read all the previous books in the series .  In summation, this was a good solid read, and if you have never read any Kathy Reichs and like forensic mysteries, you might want to start at the beginning of the series with “Deja Dead”.
